This is a new species that I discovered myself in a friend’s creek a few months ago. We have done a ton of research and haven’t been able to figure out a proper ID yet. We know that it is in the Cardamine family and that it has to be a kind of Bittercress (there are many). Due to this we have given it the trade name Carolina Bittercress since that where the plant originated from.
We have only grown them in high tech conditions so far, but find them very undemanding in the tanks we have tried them in so far. They’re doing well in soft and hard water and have truly unique growth characteristics. When emersed, they grow strictly as a rosette, but when submerged It seems to be a stem plant. instead of growing leaves from nodes, it grows branches with many leaves from each node. It also grows babies from nodes. babies grow branches from rosettes which eventually elongate into stems with more branches.
We’re super excited to see what these guys continue to do and are ecstatic to finally be able to offer them to other hobbyists!
Sold by the individual emersed rosette or submerged stem.
